Patrick Sharma leads the Tax Practice Group at Stradling Yocca. He advises startups, established companies, founders and investors on the tax aspects of business transactions and investments. His practice spans mergers and acquisitions, divestitures, debt and equity financings, joint ventures, and inbound and outbound investments.
Patrick frequently writes and speaks on tax issues and developments in tax law.
Before law school, Patrick earned a PhD in history from the University of California, Los Angeles. He is the author of “Robert McNamara’s Other War: The World Bank and International Development,” published by the University of Pennsylvania Press in 2017. In law school, he received the Sidney I. Roberts Prize for the best student paper in taxation for research on the use of tax data in estimating historical trends in income inequality.
Patrick also maintains an active pro bono practice helping organizations obtain and preserve tax-exempt status.
