Justin N. Owens

With a focus on complex business disputes and class action defense, Justin secures early and decisive victories for his clients. Justin has litigated disputes in all industries, and has achieved exceptional results in federal and state court matters, as well as private arbitrations.

Following a one-year federal clerkship in the Central District of California, Justin honed his trial skills at a large litigation firm. Since joining Stradling in 2015, Justin has a track record of decisive victories for his clients, earning him the regard of clients and peers alike.

Justin has been recognized as a leader in commercial litigation. He has been honored as a “Best Lawyer” in commercial litigation every year since 2022, and as a Super Lawyer every year since 2023. Before that he was a "Southern California Rising Star" for six consecutive years, and included on various “top” lists including Super Lawyers' "Up and Coming 25: Orange County Rising Stars List" and “Up and Coming 100: Southern California List.”  Justin was included in the Orange County Business Journal’s 2022 “OC 500 Directory of Influence.”

Justin is a member of the Board of Governors for the Association of Business Trial Lawyers (OC Chapter), and will serve as the organization’s President in 2027. Justin’s non-profit work includes serving as a Board Member for the Orange County Youth Sports Foundation. Justin is active in the South Orange County community, where he coaches youth basketball teams for his three daughters.

Experience

Currently representing a financial services company in a putative class action lawsuit involving the company’s payment processing service. The company is alleged to have operated its payment processing service in violation of California’s Consumer Legal Remedies Act (Cal. Civ. Code § 1750) and Unfair Competition Law (CA Bus. & Prof. Code § 17200 et seq.).
Secured a dismissal for Sunworks and its board of directors in multi-forum litigation involving eight separate lawsuits in six jurisdictions, arising out of Sunworks’ announcement of its merger with The Peck Company.
Successfully resolved a major fraud/counterfeit litigation brought by Cisco Technologies against Stradling’s client, a former Cisco vendor, alleging that the vendor unlawfully diverted tens of millions of  dollars of Cisco product for resale on the secondary market or “gray market” for IT hardware.
