As anticipated, on September 29, 2022, Governor Newsom signed Assembly Bill (AB) 152, which immediately extends the obligation of employers with 26 or more employees to provide COVID-19 supplemental paid sick leave (“SPSL”) through December 31, 2022.  The original requirement was set to expire on September 30, 2022.  Additionally, the bill amends standards for when employees use SPSL because they test positive for COVID-19, and creates a  grant program for small businesses and non-profits to help with the costs of providing this leave.  The details of these new provisions are discussed in more depth in our prior alert, however, now employers know for sure that they must continue providing this leave to qualifying employees through the end of the year.
