Careers

Founded in Newport Beach by four attorneys in 1975, Stradling has grown to 120 attorneys in 12 offices across California, Colorado, Nevada, Texas, and Washington. Our associates have the opportunity to specialize in areas as diverse as corporate transactions, securities and complex business litigation, private equity, mergers and acquisitions, venture capital and emerging companies, government enforcement and defense, tax, bankruptcy and restructuring, intellectual property, employment, real estate, healthcare regulatory,  consumer regulatory, public law and municipal finance. This practice mix, coupled with our focus in the life science, technology, and retail and consumer products industries, enables us to represent some of California's leading companies and municipalities in a broad array of complex and sophisticated matters.

Because we staff our projects leanly, our associates are not limited to performing legal research, conducting due diligence or writing memoranda. They are given early responsibility on meaningful, substantive work. Early on, associates are expected to deal directly with our clients, negotiate with other counsel and interact directly with partners. In addition, depending on their practice group, associates participate in initial public offerings, appear in court, assist in closing real estate transactions and prepare documents for municipal bond financings.

Compensation
Our salaries and merit-based bonuses for associates are competitive with the leading national firms. For first year associates, we also pay for the bar exam and one bar review course, and provide a bar stipend equal to one month's salary. In addition, we reimburse new associates for reasonable relocation expenses.

Benefits
In addition to our competitive compensation package, we offer medical and dental insurance to attorneys, their spouses or domestic partners, and children. We also offer attorneys family leave, a 401(k) plan, a flexible benefits plan, supplemental benefit insurance, life insurance, long-term disability insurance, short-term disability, commuter benefits, and Employee Assistance Program.

Training
Law schools don't teach you about billing, running matters, managing clients or business development. We do. We provide our associates ongoing mentoring to familiarize them with our strategy, culture and procedures, and to help them develop the skills needed for long term success. We also offer focused training in various practice areas, such as transactional negotiations and mock depositions. Our associates are introduced to business development concepts starting in their first year at the firm through group training and quarterly 1:1 coaching sessions with our business development professionals.

Shareholder Track
Associates generally are first eligible to become a shareholder seven years after graduation from law school, although there is no minimum time period. Shareholder decisions are based on several factors, including quality of legal work, productivity, the ability to work with others, and the ability to manage clients and their matters, but is not based on shareholder/associate ratios.
